Why B Corp?

HTA chose to take on the rigorous B Corp accreditation process as we felt it was important to test our assessment of our progress against a recognized and respected standard.

As a practice, we believe the goal of B Corp and the standards it promotes align closely with our culture and core values. As part of the B Corp community we advocate reducing inequality, lowering poverty and tackling climate change. It reflects our commitment to fostering a great work environment for our staff in order to best serve our clients and meet the needs of our communities.

The “B” in B Corp stands for “Benefit for All,” and validates HTA’s long-standing commitment to ethical business practices, transparency, and accountability in every aspect of our practice.

Our B Impact score

We started our journey to B Corp accreditation in June 2023, undergoing the intensive B Corp accreditation process over the course of 12 months, achieving accreditation in May 2024. The rigorous and comprehensive assessed every aspect of our practice and project work, across the 5 Impact Areas of Governance, Workers, Community, Environment and Customers.

We were delighted to achieve an Overall B Impact Score of 136.1, one of the highest of any company within the UK Built Environment sector, and well above minimum score of 80 points to be certified B Corp. Perhaps most significantly, our Environment impact area score of 43.4, is the highest of any UK architecture practice.

Whilst we see this process as useful validation of the effectiveness of our core business principles in achieving more socially and environmentally just outcomes, more importantly we now have an invaluable framework against which to measure future progress and improvements in our ongoing the stewardship of HTA.
