Braund Mansions wins a Silver Award at this year’s Scottish Design Awards in the Affordable Homes category!
Braund Mansions, designed by HTA for Wandsworth Council,stands as the inaugural building in the Winstanley and York Road EstateRegeneration, transforming vacant land into 126 climate-conscious, 100%affordable homes.
The development responds to a clear brief from WandsworthCouncil to deliver high-quality homes for existing residents, enabling therenewal of the wider estate and unlocking subsequent regeneration phases.
HTA's design process for Braund Mansions and the broadermasterplan has been informed by extensive community engagement, encompassingover 200 events in the last decade. This includes initial community ballots,detailed housing needs assessments, art installations, and engagement withlocal schools, to deliver a well-informed design that meets a diverse set ofneeds and cultivates residents' connection to their homes and wider livingenvironment.
Braund Mansions delivers significant wider benefits,including a ground floor commercial unit and new infrastructure to facilitatefuture masterplan phases. The shared, landscaped courtyard offers a vitalcommunal amenity, providing spaces for relaxation and enhancing resident’sdaily lives. By creating engaging street frontage along York Road and awelcoming entrance to the new estate, the project acts as a high-qualitycatalyst for the wider masterplan's successful regeneration.
