Often the most impactful contribution to placemaking comes from well-considered interiors. They enhance quality of life and bring pride to the spaces people call home. We design sustainable, people-centred interiors, working across every stage of the design journey, from concept to delivery.
Achieving the best outcome for every project requires an understanding of the needs and aspirations of local communities and stakeholders. We design and lead creative engagement programmes that are unique to each project, presenting information that is accessible and easily understood. This enables us to communicate ideas clearly, gain relevant and honest feedback, to genuinely inform the design decision-making process.
We bring a deep understanding of the complex layers of planning policy and an understanding of the importance of design quality. We engage with our clients and their design teams to shape their development proposals every step of the way. As thought leaders, we contribute to policy development and explore new housing models, creatively applying planning tools to shape sustainable, well designed places.
Committed to creating more sustainable outcomes across everything we do, we ensure better-performing buildings through strategic advice, detailed analysis, and formal assessments. Our environmental specialists support projects from inception to completion, championing post-occupancy evaluation to measure performance and ensure long-term benefits.
Making space for nature is essential to tackling climate change and shaping popular, sustainable places to live. From public parks and creative play space, to greener streets and public realm, we create biodiverse landscapes that enhance wellbeing and encourage social interaction. Rooted in context and respectful of heritage, our designs balance nature and people, creating resilient environments that support both communities and ecosystems.
We enhance the liveability of towns and cities by making better use of land creating more attractive, better-connected, mixed-use neighbourhoods people are proud to call home. Our masterplans evolve through creative engagement with local communities and stakeholders, shaping a shared vision and guiding development towards a viable and sustainable future.
If the most sustainable building is one that already exists, our legacy of renovation and retrofit projects over more than 50 years, has made a significant contribution in our journey towards zero carbon. We have repurposed countless buildings others might have chosen to replace, including our own London Studio, extending their life and creating cherished assets within more characterful places.
We integrate biophilia into all our projects, ensuring landscape design enhances places for people and nature. Our work includes some of London’s most nature-rich urban spaces, with expertise in establishing nature recovery networks that maximise biodiversity and incorporate sustainable drainage solutions for long-term environmental resilience.
Our Placecraft team designs family-focused neighbourhoods as suburban extensions to towns and cities. Working across the UK, from Newcastle to Plymouth, we develop masterplans that promote nature recovery networks and housing design rooted in local character. Our projects prioritise walkability, reduce car dependence, and support low-carbon, sustainable living.
Addressing the climate and biodiversity crises is central to our mission to create more sustainable places. Drawing on our experience designing low-carbon communities across the UK, we use advanced digital tools to optimise designs, harness passive measures, and reduce embodied carbon and energy use – while protecting and enhancing the natural world.
We champion Modern Methods of Construction, embedding Design for Manufacture and Assembly principles in every project. Our extensive modular portfolio spans a range of sectors, demonstrating the benefits of efficiency, quality, and sustainability. Our unrivalled portfolio of completed modular projects are amongst the most innovative and recognised across the world, placing HTA as a global leader in volumetric modular design.
Our founding practice, Hunt Thompson Associates, established the Community Architecture movement to help make residents part of the decision-making process. We continue in our commitment to local engagement to determine the best approach, and evolve better outcomes for the residents of some of the largest housing estates in London and across the UK. We help tackle complex challenges and deliver long-lasting improvements for residents.
We design student and co-living accommodation that balances private living with shared spaces. Our student schemes in London provide homes for over 5,000 students, combining well-planned studios with communal amenities. Our research into global projects confirms Co-Living to be a brilliant model to counteract urban loneliness, combining well-designed private living studios with a huge variety of managed communal amenity spaces. This research helped inform the London Mayor’s Co-living policy and set the standard for a new generation of shared living models, including delivery of the world’s tallest volumetric modular building.
At the forefront of Build to Rent since its UK emergence a decade ago, we have completed various significant projects that have helped set the standard. From large-scale masterplans for entire communities, town centre regeneration and graceful towers, that unlock previously unviable projects. Many use volumetric modular construction, improving quality, speeding up delivery, and reducing carbon.
Successful and sustainable places to live offer homes of varying sizes, types and tenures, helping to create a mixed community. Known for designing some of the UK’s very best affordable housing over more than five decades, we are working with clients to deliver a new generation of affordable homes that showcase the benefits of higher design quality and sustainable construction.
Great places evolve over time, requiring a deep understanding of context, character, and heritage. Our masterplans bring together multiple design disciplines to create deliverable, viable visions, both for new places and for revitalising existing ones. Through collaboration and careful stewardship, we shape places that are distinctive, resilient, and rooted in their surroundings.
We make architecture inspired by the unique qualities of the context and champion a component led approach to design. We take inspiration from the character and heritage of the local area to evolve the built form and materiality, whilst embracing the benefits of modern methods of construction. The result is architecture that is beautiful, ordered, human, and sustainable, enhancing both places and the lives of those who experience them.
