Upton Site C

Northamptonshire

A competition-winning exemplary development that led the way in sustainable urban neighbourhood

Upton is a pioneering sustainable urban neighbourhood. It has been celebrated as an example of national best practice in residential design by English Partnerships, the Princes Trust and Northamptonshire Borough Council.

As winner of a housing design award, the project was the first to achieve the challenging EcoHomes Excellent standard, a precursor to the Code for Sustainable Homes. The homes at Upton feature distinctive, yet familiar roof forms, high quality external materials, and innovative sustainable design features.

Our design team worked within the Upton Framework Plan and Upton Design Code to deliver 30 new homes which connect to surrounding nature. A rich green landscape has been designed throughout the development with a soft green edge that connects residents with an extensive local park and neighbouring woodland. To maximise connection to the natural landscape every home benefits from varied garden planting and green roofs.

As the distinctive edge site of the Upton development, the high quality achieved at Site C has been used as a precedent in several design guides, informing delivery of other neighbourhoods in the UK.
