The regeneration of a brownfield site providing 150 new homes and a rejuvenated park within the wider neighbourhood regeneration plan
Filwood Park is a 150-home scheme on a brownfield site in Bristol located at the southern end of the main high street in the Knowle West estate.
At the heart of the development is the new park with over 2.5 ha of open space integrating play, biodiversity enhancements and SUDs around community facilities in a new Park Hub offering a multi-use space for the community. A gentle crescent of paired townhouses then frames the park, arranged asymmetrically to offer two distinct typologies while maximising active frontage to the park. To the rear of the crescent, quieter courtyard streets are enclosed by terraces of 2-storey houses, creating a secure boundary between the rear gardens of existing homes. The stepped forms of the building establish the identity at the entry to the site while mitigating the noise of this major road by protecting the park and houses within the site.
The development is not just about building homes; it's about transforming the Knowle West estate. The private homes in the development fund the new park and balance the mix of tenures over the wider area. This project is a testament to how public land can be leveraged to create integrated public spaces and new housing, playing a crucial role in the regeneration of a whole neighbourhood.
