Aylesbury Square

HTA’s Interiors team has delivered a welcoming new public library at ground floor level, shaped through in-depth consultation with local residents. Occupying 780m², the Una Marson Library plays a central role in the civic life of Aylesbury Square and provides a broad mix of inclusive and flexible spaces tailored to local needs. The layout includes a Children’s Story Library that encourages early reading through playful, explorative design; a Quiet Study Zone offering a supportive space for those without internet or private study areas at home; a Shared Media Library; and informal reading areas that encourage interaction across age groups and interests. A designated display wall celebrates local culture and heritage, including figures such as Una Marson, after whom the library is named. Window-facing desks offer natural light and views over the new public square.

Residents helped shape the brief and interior detailing, from communal reading corners for older adults to the position of desks and display areas, ensuring the space reflects both community values and everyday use. Adjacent to the library, a co-located community facility includes a multi-purpose hall suitable for nursery activities, events and group meetings. A suite of small offices, bookable rooms, shared kitchen, buggy store and accessible circulation complete this thoughtfully designed amenity hub. Wayfinding and signage support intuitive navigation and align with the material palette and architectural detailing throughout.
